Australian Indigenous Fashion Week
Australian Indigenous Fashion Week (AIFW) is Australia's first national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Fashion showcase under one banner.
The inaugural event will be taking place in Sydney initially over two days, 30-31 August 2013, and will provide a platform for promoting authentic Australian Indigenous made products. The event will then expand to a week-long celebration by 2015.
The AIFW event will be open to industry buyers and consumers and will feature the best of Australian Indigenous designs, textiles, accessories and furniture from communities around Australia. The event will provide multiple opportunities to promote Australia’s extremely talented Indigenous designers, nurture new designers and provide design collaboration opportunities with national and international brands.
One of the main aims of AIFW is to improve the economic status of Aboriginal people by brokering relationships with local and international buyers. Beyond that, it is also a chance to celebrate indigenous designers and increase their profile. AIFW will promote ethical trading and best practice when working with and purchasing or licensing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander arts, prints, designs and cultural products.
